How Scoring Works
Every battle uses the same fixed rubric: five rounds, scored 0–10 per contender, same order, every time. No round gets swapped out to flatter a favorite. Here's exactly what each one measures.
- Round 1
Output Quality
Does it actually produce the thing well — accurate, on-brief, polished enough to use with light editing? This is the round that matters most and it's weighted like it, but it's still just one of five.
- Round 2
Ease of Use
How fast can a competent practitioner get from blank state to good output? Setup friction, learning curve, and how often the tool gets in its own way all count against it here.
- Round 3
Price / Value
Not "which is cheapest" — which plan delivers the most usable output per dollar for a realistic workload. A $20 tool that runs out of credits in a week loses to a $30 tool that doesn't.
- Round 4
Speed
Latency and throughput for realistic tasks, not cherry-picked demos. A tool that's brilliant but takes five minutes per generation gets marked down here even if Output Quality is a 10.
- Round 5
Ecosystem & Integrations
API access, plugin/extension support, how well it plays with the rest of a real workflow (IDEs, DAWs, design tools, other AI tools). A tool that's great in isolation but an island loses ground.
What these scores are — and aren't
They are: one editorial team's opinion after using the tools for real work, cross-checked against public pricing pages, release notes, and documentation at the time of writing.
They are not: a standardized lab benchmark, a survey of real users, or a measure of installed base / revenue / popularity. We never invent review counts, user numbers, or "verified" testimonials to make a verdict look more authoritative than it is.
They go stale. AI tools change pricing and ship new models monthly. Every battle has a visible "Last verified" date — treat anything older than a few months as a starting point for your own research, not a live price sheet. Figures on this site are illustrative and should be verified against the vendor before you rely on them.
